Removal of Volatile Organic Compounds by Means of a Felt-Based Living Wall Using Different Plant Species

چکیده

Poor indoor quality affects people’s health and well-being. Phytoremediation is one way in which this problem can be tackled, with living walls being a viable option for places limited space. The aim of study was to evaluate the efficiency five plant species wall remove Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) identify whether type pollutant has any influence. An enclosed chamber used add contaminants n-hexane formaldehyde independently. Total VOCs were measured three days two scenarios: (1) empty chamber, (2) wall. Five prepared, each plants same species: Spathiphyllum wallisii, Philodendron hederaceum, Ficus pumila, Tradescantia pallida, Chlorophytum comosum. There no correlation between leaf area/fresh weight/dry weight contaminant reduction. In general, all more efficient reducing TVOCs when exposed than n-hexane. comosum most concentration both contaminants, wallisii least by far.

Identification of volatile organic compounds of some Trichoderma species using static headspace gas chromatography-mass spectrometry

Fungi release wide spectrum of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that belong to several chemical groups with different biochemical origins such as monoterpenes, sesquiterpenes, alcohols, aldehydes, aromatic compounds, esters, furans, ketones, sulfur and nitrogen compounds. Trichoderma species are the most studied fungal biocontrol agents and are successfully used as biofungicides and biofertili...

Volatile Organic Compounds Removal Methods: A Review

Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) are among the most toxic chemicals which are detrimental to humans and environment. There is a significant need of fully satisfactory method for removal of VOCs. There are several methods including physical, chemical and biological treatments available to remove VOCs by either recovery or destruction. The aim of the present study is to summarize the available m...

Catalytic Removal of Volatile Organic Compounds

The degradation of air quality by the release of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) into the air particularly harms human health and our environment. Regulation of outdoor VOC emissions is required to prevent the formation of ground-level ozone, which is principally responsible for photochemical smog. Indoor emissions of VOCs have been the subject of recent consideration for many governments aro...

Removal of Indoor Volatile Organic Compounds

Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and formaldehyde are ubiquitous in indoor environment. 16 Inhalation of VOCs can cause irritations, difficulty breathing, and nausea, and damage the central 17 nervous system as well as other organs. Formaldehyde is even a carcinogen. Removal of VOCs and 18 formaldehyde is thus critical to control indoor air quality (IAQ). Photocatalytic oxidation has been 19 d...

Removal of hydrophobic Volatile Organic Compounds

23 Since usual processes involve water as absorbent, they appear not always really efficient for the treatment of 24 hydrophobic VOC. Recently, absorption and biodegradation coupling in a two-phase partitioning bioreactor (TPPB) 25 proved to be a promising technology for hydrophobic compound treatment. The choice of the organic phase, the non26 aqueous phase liquid (NAPL) is based on various pa...
